Volunteers

SANDS is a volunteer based organisation and relies heavily on the dedication of its valued volunteers to provide the level of services that parents and their families need when they experience the death of their baby.

The effort and the availability of our volunteers vary considerably.  Some volunteers have full time careers and can only contribute after hours or on weekends. Others may have a more flexible lifestyle and may be able to give more freely of their time and energy.  Any contribution is valued.

The activities that our volunteers are involved in are varied and include the following:

  • Office work including typing, filing, brochure folding
  • Newsletter production
  • Committee positions
  • Expos and displays
  • Helping out at coffee mornings and night support meetings
  • Working Bees

There is something there for everyone. There is no age limit on our volunteers and no activity is limited to men or women. From time to time SANDS will ask for volunteer contributions through the newsletter for particular events. All our volunteers receive training if needed, in the tasks they choose to undertake.

The SANDS house is located at 505 Bowen Terrace, New Farm.  There is no restriction on parking in the area and there are bus services that run to and from Fortitude Valley.  The City Cat is a ten-minute walk from the house.  The UBD reference is Map 19 L 20.

Why Become a Volunteer?

Many of our volunteers find that volunteering gives them a great sense of satisfaction.  They feel that they are able to contribute, to give back to an organisation that has supported them.

Some volunteers also feel they are contributing by ensuring that future parents and their families who experience the death of their baby are given the support and services they need during their grief journey.  They may feel they are making a difference in the lives of bereaved parents and their families.

How to Become a Volunteer
